Everyday Weekend

March 10, 2018

“It's not that we spend five days looking forward to just two. It's that most people do what they enjoy most on those two days. Imagine living a life where everyday are your Saturdays and Sundays. Make everyday your weekend. Make everyday a play-day…”

― James A. Murphy

Weekday sunset fun. Who said Wednesday nights couldn’t be spent goofing around on a haybale?

Weekends are often revered as a time to unwind from a long 40+ hour week, to go out and disappear, unleash your inner crazy and to rejuvenate & prepare for the next week ahead. Two free days means a lot of opportunity for your passions and plans, and generally our weekends are packed to the brim with all of the things we want to do but can’t fit into our long work week. All you weekend warriors know exactly what I’m talking about.

They’re refreshing, invigorating, exciting, and refreshing! The great majority of my favorite times have been on weekends that overflowed with all of my people and hobbies. Weekends have become my treasured time with unceasing smiles.

But what if we were to maintain that hopeful attitude into our week, and continued living our weekend? The two night float trip won’t be as easily accomplished, but strapping a kayak onto your car roof in the morning before work and taking it out for a sunset float is. Rock climbers spend weekends dirtbagging outdoors at the crag, but there are plenty of indoor gyms to visit and get different exposure on climbs. Kid’s look forward to their Saturday morning soccer games, but what if you set out some of your Kijaro chairs in your backyard to mimic a sideline, and invited the neighbors over to create another soccer game to enjoy your Tuesday nights with your family? Lunch breaks can be moved to picnics under the blue sky with the shape-shifting clouds rolling by, and early mornings can be spent watching the sunrise with your cup of coffee and a book.

Hobbies and passions are what draw your attention and use your time, but they shouldn’t be limited to a short 48 hour period of our week. There is always talk about needing rejuvenation after a long day of work, and then waiting for the weekend to take action. If we gather the excitement for the long awaited Saturdays and Sundays and use it Monday through Friday, we can live everyday like it’s the weekend. There’s never been a limit to creativity or enjoyment.

We’d love to hear how you’re transforming your weekdays into fun-filled weekends.
